I am basically an instrument engineer who really desire to have professional community in Indonesia like ISA. I hope this community will become a professional forum to share knowledge to help each other in instrumentation and automation. Although recently I am no longer 100% as an Instrument Engineer.
I was born in Bojonegoro (where the block Cepu is ^_^), I passed my school at SDN Gedongarum, SMP N Kanor, and SMU N 1 Bojonegoro. I was graduated from Engineering Physics ITB Bandung with majoring study in Instrumentation and Control. I utilized DCS CS1000 during my final thesis to control Fluid Catalitic Cracker Plant. My plant actually was a device which could inject and receive signal according to real process condition of FCC (imagine a transmitter and control valve in real FCC Plant). The current injector and receiver was National Instrument Field Point, it was transmitter and it was control valve as well. When should the transmitter inject signal 4-20 mA as per real process condition of pressure, level, temperature? This was the question. In order to do that I made special program to transfer the actual process characteristic of FCC to mathematic calculation. This calculation was done by PC. The result of calculation was a process value which was transmitted using serial communication to National Instrument Field Point to lead it send signal or current mA to DCS. For example if you have specific value of flow you will have changing on temperature exactly. How much the changing? the PC will calculate as per mathematic transfer function and send the result as percentage to Field Point. And then field point transfer the percentage to mA and sendit to DCS. It would be received by DCS as a field data same as signal received by DCS from real transmitter. The DCS will calculate using PID calculation. The PID is a control strategy / method to bring the process value to reach the set-point. The result of PID is MV signal. The MV signal would be sent back to Field Point by DCS as adjustment signal for final control element. And the NIFP will convert the value of MV to percentage and send it back to PC. And PC will re-calculate as per mathematic transfer function.
My first carreer was an instrument engineer for engineering consultant company in Jakarta. I was dealing with design of real intrumentation and control. That was real transmitter, control valve, shutdown valve, etc. And also the design of pneumatic panel, control strategy, cause and effect, detail installation drawing, etc. All this effort was paper base job only because we were consultant.
My second job was an instrument commissioning engineer in EPCI company. I was dealing with Loop Checking / Function Test activity for every devices; transmitter, control valve, sdv, etc. After all this things was confirmed working we must be able to run ‘live’ the system. The system could be utility air system, fire water system, diesel fuel system, etc. Off course, all the system require instrumentation and control strategy. And that is my lovely job. It is Offshore Oil & Gas Platform; the resources of world energy for modern mankind history.
My third job makes me away from instrumentation and control study. Coordinating the project completion shall take my self on duty for multidiscipline job. I don’t know it will be a benefecial for me or it just will take my self lost of focus on the professional topic which has been become my main study since the last 10 years, since I was in university.
My technical experience which I wrote in my blog is not for copy paste purposes for any reasons. NO COPY PASTE ALLOWED. I found somebody delete my name and change it into his name and declare it in his blog or press that he is the author of the articles. This is a professional ethic that you must to consider if you want to make something different with movie DVD or VCD pirates on the street. Even just a blog, Indonesian people can be a rat, how if they are dealing with money. We must stop it at all.
